Current styles are: CROSS, DEEPLY, FLOOR, FOLD, GRACEFULLY and RECOGNITION.

Usage is: BOW <style> <target>

All characters may attempt to BRISTLE, but only the Half-Krolvin have mastered the feat.  Half-Krolvin can also BRISTLE to express their feelings in a number of ways.

Current Half-Krolvin styles are: ANXIOUS, EXCITED, HAPPY, IMPATIENT, NERVOUS, PROUD, SATISFIED, SLEEPY and SMUG.

Usage is: BRISTLE <target> or BRISTLE <style>

BUG

BUG now works with new formatting.  Submitting a BUG now submits it to a website database, which helps to track the different bugs.

Usage: BUG {category};{title};{text}

NOTE: There should be no spaces between the category, title and text of the bugs, just the semicolons.  Using spaces may result in the bug not being submitted correctly.

{category} must be one of the following:

CHARACTER - problems related to your character

CREATURE - creatures and NPC problems

MAGIC - problems with a spell, sign or symbol

COMBAT - combat errors

ROOM - problems with a room or area

TYPO - mispellings and grammer errors

OTHER - problems with things not easily categorized

PnC - point and click problems / menu problems

STORMFRONT - problems with the StormFront Front End

ESCAPE - problems with the eScape Front End

WIZARD - problems with the Wizard Front End

{title} can be no more than 128 characters in length

{text} can be no more than 875 characters

You now use the BUG verb to submit TYPOs.

Typing BUG within the StormFront Front End will bring up the BUG dialog box, where you can fill in the category, title and text of the bug.

BUGITEM

Used to submit bug reports on specific items.

Usage: BUGITEM {item};{description of problem}

NOTE: There can be no spaces between the item and description of the problem, just a semicolon.  Using spaces may result in an incorrect bug report being submitted, which won’t help in getting the bug fixed.

The item you’re targeting needs to be in the same room as you.

This will issue an email to play.net’s bug tracking database.  Be as detailed as possible, describing what you were doing, the behavior you expected, and the behavior you experienced. You must be in the same room as the item you are targeting.  Do not use this mechanism to make suggestions or feature requests for items. Those should be posted to the forums.

Players using StormFront can click on an offending item and choose “submit bug report” from its menu.  Please note you MUST be in the same room as the object you’re bugging and it cannot be in another player’s inventory.  Using BUGITEM to report problems with a specific item is highly recommended when at all possible, as it will submit full details on all of the item’s various settings along with your bug report, to help GMs more accurately reproduce (and thus, fix) the problem.

DEMEANOR

You can now set your demeanor especially for different races and professions.  Racial or professional demeanor will override general demeanor.

Usage is: DEMEANOR <level> <race or profession>

Should you wish to have your professional demeanor match your general demeanor, there is a special CLEAR level that can be used.

DETECT

You can now attempt to DETECT traps on boxes and such, instead of DISARMing them. The DETECT verb will only search for traps, not attempt to actually disarm one, so fewer worries about inadvertently setting one off that you've already checked.

The DISARM verb, of course, will still perform both functions as it always has.

DISDAIN

Characters may now DISDAIN their surroundings.  Elves (not Sylvans or Dark Elves) will also find a number of options to show their haughtiness.

Current styles are: BLANK, GAZE, GLANCE, GLARE and STARE.

Usage is: DISDAIN <style>

EMPTY

You can now empty things into other things.  Note that most items that do special things for putting stuff away (i.e.: trash barrels) will not work with this verb unless/until they are updated on an individual basis.  This should save you the hassle of moving items around and around one by one.

The verb will move all items that will fit into the target container into it - it doesn’t stop once it finds one that won’t fit, it keeps checking in case something smaller can fit.  You must be holding the container you’re emptying, and the thing you’re putting the items into must either be held by you, worn by you, or lying on the ground.  You can only empty INTO things, not on, under, or behind them.

Usage is simple: EMPTY <container> INTO <container>

NOTE: Some items will not transfer when using the EMPTY verb, so it is recommended that you check to make sure everything has come out.

EXP

The EXP verb now displays Exp. to next TP (instead of Exp. to next level) for level 100 characters.

EXPEL

Used to remove a member from a House.  EXPEL no longer needs the member to be in the same room, but all other restrictions apply.

FIXSKILLS HELP

Provides more information on using the FIXSKILLS system.

FLAP

FLAP is available to all players, but Aelotoi characters have more options.  Aelotoi may flap their wings normally, at themselves and at other people or targets.  The Aelotoi will discover that when FLAPping at other people, their reactions will be based upon their and the target’s DEMEANOR.

Usage is: FOLD WINGS <target>

GATHER

The new GATHER command will allow you to collect all identical arrows, bolts, or fletched shafts from the ground and automatically place them in one bundle in your hand. This command uses the same rules as bundling these items.

Additionally, you may now drop entire bundles of ranged ammunition into an identical bundle in a container, instead of one missile at a time.

GAZE

The GAZE verb has been updated to allow gazing in various styles.

New styles are: AMAZEMENT, AMUSEMENT, AWE, CONFIDENT, DAZED, DREAD, FEAR, FONDNESS, GREED, INTEREST, NORMAL, PROUD, STUPID and WONDER.

Note: GAZE with no style and GAZE NORMAL are two different styles. GAZE with no style will result in gazing with the default style depending on the target, while GAZE NORMAL will gaze without any style.

See GAZE HELP for a list of all the available styles.

GLD

The existing GLD RANK command has been expanded to include ALL, ON, and OFF options. Using GLD RANK ALL will display the guild ranks of every visible person in the same room as you, while GLD RANK ON/OFF allows you to toggle whether others can see your guild information or not.

A new command, GLD ABANDON, has also been added. This command allows Warrior and Rogue Guild members the one-time option to abandon any of their current guild ranks. Any ranks given up in such a fashion will simply disappear, thereby allowing a guild member who has reached their rank maximum to train (or retrain) in the guild as they see fit.

Please note that this is not a guild rank reallocation option. Any ranks abandoned via this mechanism are gone and cannot be reassigned or traded in for experience. This option is only available to guild members who are at their current guild rank cap.

Courtesy of GM Ildran and GM Kitrina, posted 11/22/2004 and 11/23/2004

Guild members may use GLD CHECK IN to pay dues 90 days (3 months) in advance.

Each time a guild member asks a Guild Master about check in, it accounts for one month of dues. It is possible to do this up to 3 times, for a total of 3 months paid in advance.

Due to the fact that Guild Masters are expected to be very involved in the guild, they are not able to pay dues three months in advance, but are able to refresh their current month. This is an improvement upon the previous method which only allowed a Guild Master to check in when the 30 days expired.

Guild Masters will only be able gain experience by checking in other Guild Masters every 20 days in an effort to prevent EXP abuse.

Guild members may also use GLD to let them know when they need to check in next.

GROUP

More options have been given to the GROUP verb.

As a group leader, you can:

GROUP LEADER {player} - Designates {player} as the new leader of the group.

GROUP REMOVE {player} - Removes {player} from the group.

If you recently tried to join someone but their group was closed, they have a thirty second window in which they can hold you even if your own group is closed.

Likewise, if someone recently tried to hold you but your group was closed, you have a thirty second window in which you can join them -- even if their group is closed.

GUARD

Guard allows a warrior to attempt to block attacks against another target (either player or creature).  A warrior can only attempt to guard one target at a time, and a target can only have one guard at any given time.  To start guarding a target, the warrior simply uses GUARD <target>.

When guarding, the warrior automatically (if not incapacitated) attempts to block attacks against the target with 50% of his or her normal blocking ability, at the cost of 25% reduction in chances to block attacks directed towards him or herself (i.e. if the warrior normally has a 20% chance to block an attack against themselves, then the warrior would have a 10% chance to block attacks against his or her guarded target and a 15% chance to block attacks against themselves.)

The above only applies to the chances to outright block an attack, it does not affect either party’s derived block DS.

HELP

Characters carrying out sentences of community service may now type HELP SERVICE or HELP TASK to provide help on how to perform the tasks assigned to them.

Certain races and professions have an advantage in creating successful imitations.

Burghal and Forest Gnomes are flawless in all types of imitation as well as ventriloquism.  Rangers are considered to have a bonus to imitation, with bards having a slightly lower bonus.  Sylvans have a slight bonus to imitation.

IMPOSE

Halflings may attempt to make themselves look bigger/more formidable by using the IMPOSE verb.

INCANT

Prepares a spell and cast it at the same time.

INCANT automatically finds a target, so you only need to specify the spell name or number (if you don’t have one prepared already). INCANT chooses a target based on whether or not the spell is considered offensive (if a spell can’t be cast in a sanctuary, that’s a good indication that it is offensive), so it can target you or a creature as appropriate.  If you have a target for offensive spells, INCANTed spells will be cast at your target.

StormFront users may also prepare and cast at the same time using the spell control group of buttons in the Combat Panel.

Usage is:

INCANT <spell number, name or mnemonic>

>inquire

You inquire as to the town constable’s whereabouts, and a clerk responds, “Ah, I believe he’s currently in Warehouse.  The Musty Room area, specifically.”

For those that choose prison sentences, the criminal will also be able to INQUIRE from the guard about their remaining incarceration time.

INSPECT

If INSPECTing a weapon with a name that is not one of the listed bases, the player will get a message saying what base the weapon actually is.  For example, inspecting a badelaire might return the message, “It appears to be a modified falchion,” meaning the badelaire is a falchion-based weapon.

Also, if a character INSPECTs an item he or she was the last to REGISTER, the player will get a message saying such, along with when the item was last registered.

The MOVEMENT command in GS4 sets a style that defines “how” your character moves. Point and Click users may access this command by clicking on actions in the default quicklinks bar and selecting “movement style.”

When issued, the command permanently sets that style to the user, until MOVEMENT NORMAL is reselected, or some game mechanics forces them out of their current style.

POINT

In GS4, you can now point objects you’re holding at things.  There will be some things that you can’t point stuff at.  Objects that do special stuff when you point at them won’t be pointable at other objects either (It’ll act like you pointed at them, just like it does now.).

More info on how to choose what to display can be found when you type PROFILE.

To display a person’s profile, type PROFILE <person>.

To display your own profile settings, type PROFILE INFO.

PROTECT

Protect allows a warrior to parry attacks against a target (either player or creature).  A warrior can only attempt to protect one target at a time, and a target can only have one protector at any given time.  To start protecting a target, the warrior simply uses PROTECT <target>.  To stop, the warrior may use STOP PROTECTING.

When protecting, the warrior automatically (if not incapacitated) attempts to parry attacks against the target with 50% of his or her normal parrying ability, at the cost of 25% reduction in chances to parry attacks directed towards him or herself (i.e. if the warrior normally has a 20% chance to parry an attack against themselves, then the warrior would have a 10% chance to parry attacks against his or her protected target and a 15% chance to parry attacks against themselves.).

The above only applies to the chances to outright parry an attack.  It does not affect either party’s derived parry DS.

REGISTER

Characters may REGISTER their items from anywhere inside a town.  The item simply needs to be in hand at the time of the registration, and registration no longer costs 10 silvers.

 RUMMAGE [in|on|under|behind] <container> SPELL <spell>

SAY ]]

You may now SAY ]]<target> to throw your voice behind a person, creature, or object on the floor of a room.

Gnomes using ventriloquism from hiding have the ability to mask their identity from listeners.  Ventriloquism also works with IMITATE SPEECH. IMITATE SPEECH MELISSA ]]DESK Welcome to GemStone IV! might return the following, if I were hiding and a gnome: In a perfect imitation of Melissa, speaking softly from behind a product manager’s desk, a voice exclaims, “Welcome to GemStone IV!”

SAY ::<target>

Used to direct speech to a person, creature or object.  Note that targeting your speech will result in an inverted sentence structure as shown below.  Using tone alone, however, results in the same sentence structure as before.

SAY :<tone> ::<target> MESSAGE.

For example, typing the following:

SAY :angry ::Kobold You’re a weenie!

Will come across:

Speaking angrily to a kobold, you exclaim “You’re a weenie!”

Please note now that the TONE comes after a single colon, and the target of the speech comes after a double colon.

It is also now possible to talk to items in your direct inventory, but not items inside other items.  Note that when you try to talk to an item, the system will first scan your inventory before scanning the room you’re in.  So, if you have a ring in your hand or on your fingers and a ring sitting on the ground, you’re going to talk to your ring, such as:

Speaking angrily to your gold ring, you exclaim “You’re a weenie, too!”

Targeted speech may not work well with the highlights in the Wizard, but StormFront has no problems with highlighting this speech.

Targeted speech may also be used in StormFront by clicking the target of the speech, and selecting “speak to.”

SCRATCH

Players with a beard, mustache, or goatee feature as a special feature instead of one of the “stock” features can now SCRATCH it.

Ildran turns over his vultite longsword.
