Teleportation Changes

Teleportation Changes

GS4 has been modifed to include rooms with one-way teleport features.  The majority of these rooms allow teleportation only in the ‘out’ direction, most often rooms in areas behind some sort of obstacle involving a skill check or puzzle.  The other half of this update was making the various teleportation methods consistent with each other.

Inbound and Outbound Spells

The spells 130 and 1020, Sign of Darkness, Symbol of Return are the ‘outbound’ spells.  Any of these spells will function in any room that allows outbound teleportation, there are no longer any rooms that are ‘fog only.’

The spell 225 is the ‘inbound’ spell.  If your target is in a room that allows inbound teleports (and your room allows outbound), everything will function normally.

Mixed Methods

Gold rings – allow you to leave any room that the outbound spells function in.  It takes you to your ‘set’ destination room, of course.  However, the ring may not reset itself to return.  For example, if room A allows teleport out but not teleport in, the ring will not reset itself when you leave it, because it’s an invalid destination for the return trip.  You can’t ‘set’ a ring by turning it if the room doesn’t allow inbound.  If you feel the pulse, the room’s a good target.  Most of the teleport items sold by merchants over the years follow gold ring rules.

Familiar Gate – you can’t open a gate if your familiar’s in room that doesn’t allow inbound teleports (or to a no magic or no familiar room, of course).  You can’t open a gate if the room you’re standing in doesn’t allow outbound.

Area Bug Reporting

As a general rule, if a room was ‘foggable’ in GemStone III, it probably is in GS4 as well.  If you notice an area that you have questions about, feel free to drop a bug report.  There are some that were changed intentionally from GemStone III, but not many.  In GS4, for any room that is ‘foggable,’ 130 and 1020 will work, sign of darkness and symbol of return will work, rings and familiars will work to exit.  The vast majority of the one-way rooms exclude INbound teleportation, so 225, rings and Familiar Gate still won’t get you to into those areas behind skill checks or puzzles.
